This piece was fired outside in a raku kiln. Then, once it reached 1860 degrees it was taken out of the kiln and thrown into a pile of straw to catch fire and then smoke inside a barrel. Each raku piece is completely unique, unpredictable and magical.
Please Note: Raku is a firing technique that does not completely vitrify the clay. This means that it is still porous, so this piece is not food safe. After firing the inside of this piece was treated with varnish to make it water-tight. It may need to be treated again at some point in the future, or you could choose to use it to hold things that do not require water, such as dried flowers or plants, utensils, pens and pencils, or anything else you can think of.
